79th King and Queen of Mt Maunganui - 19th April 2026

Athletics Tauranga welcomes participants to the 79th King and Queen of Mt Maunganui, hosted on the world renowned Mt Maunganui Beach and our sacred local mountain Mauao.

Junior Race Starts 10:30am   -   Senior Race Starts 11:00am

Junior Mountain Race - approx 2.5km

For runners 15 and under as at 31st December 2026 (Must be born 2011 or later). Prizes for 1st to 3rd in both 15 and under plus 11 and under categories, as well as spot prizes. 

Race starts on Main Mount Beach, opposite Mt Drury. Runners race along the beach, up the historic stone steps, part way up Mauao then return the same way.

Senior Mountain Race - approx 4km

Broken into 16-19yrs, Senior, Masters 35-49, Masters 50+ categories. Trophies for winning male and female, plus prizes for 1st to 3rd in each category (at organisers discretion based on entry numbers), plus spot prizes.

Race starts on Main Mount Beach, opposite Mt Drury. Runners race along the beach, up the histoic stone steps, left at the junction up the Waikorire Track to the summit of Mauao, left through the cross summit track, then decend on the fourwheel drive track til a sharp right onto the Oruahine Track back to the base then return along the beach.

Prize giving as soon as possible after race completion - approx 12:30pm at the base of Mt Drury. Athletes must be present to claim spot prizes.
