King and Queen of the Beach - 19th April 2026
Due to the recent tragic events on Mauao the King and Queen of Mt Maunganui is postponed til further notice. Our thoughts and love go out to all those affected. In it's place we will be hosting a one off Community Fun Run/Walk.
This year, with Mauao unable to host our much-loved King and Queen of Mt Maunganui due to the recent tragic events and landslides, we’re doing something a little different — and a little more meaningful.
Instead of racing up the Mount, we’re inviting everyone to come together for a Community Beach Run, held on the same day as originally planned: Sunday 19 April. This will be a relaxed, inclusive out-and-back beach run/walk, starting from our usual base opposite Mt Drury and heading along the shoreline towards Omanu.
With 2km and 5km options, this event is open to all ages and abilities — runners, walkers, families, friends. Whilst we still wish to provide timing and results for participants we plan no podiums or placing prizes — just movement, fresh air, community and a few spot prizes.
The focus of the day is connection. Coming together after a challenging time, supporting our local businesses, and giving back where we can. A portion of event proceeds will be donated to a charity connected with the recent tragedy, such as Search and Rescue or another local cause, to help support those who do so much for our community.
This isn’t about records or titles. It’s about showing up for each other, sharing the beach we love, and moving forward together.
Start time: 11:00am
Prize giving as soon as possible after event completion - approx 12:30pm at the base of Mt Drury. Athletes must be present to claim spot prizes.
